Study Revealing Electric Vehicle Batteries part of PFAS problem

A Duke University-led research team identified lithium-ion battery production and disposal as an emerging source of a lesser-studied class of PFAS known as bis-FASIs. Researchers found the compounds near manufacturing facilities and in landfill leachate, showing that battery-related chemicals can move into surrounding water and waste streams. The study also found that common PFAS-removal approaches such as granular activated carbon and ion exchange can reduce bis-FASI concentrations in water.
